Here is a picture of a Chinese toilet. Though many places have "Western" toilets, there are still plenty of places that have only these types of squatting toilets. This picture was taken at a restaurant near our house, and it is a unisex bathroom. Without going into much detail, you use it by facing the wall, squatting, doing your business, then flushing.
It is an experience that we try to avoid as often as possible.
